A freak goal by goalkeeper Tim Howard gave Everton the advantage but a comeback from Bolton with goals from Ngog and captain Gary Cahill gave the visitors the three points in a 2-1 victory.

It was a quiet first half at Goodison Park with each side trying to score through the wind on Merseyside.
