Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard scored a hat-trick on his return back to the starting XI as he helped to overcome Everton 3-0 in the Merseyside derby and end their recent poor run.
It was the hosts side who gained control of the game in the early stages and they so nearly took the lead after seven minutes when Steven Gerrard advanced on goal, but Tim Howard was on hand to push the ball to safety.
