Arsenal's charge for third place in the Premier League continued as a late scored goal helped them to a 2-1 victory over Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium.

Hatem Ben Arfa opened the scoring with a venemous left-footed strike before Robin van Persie equalised less than a minute later in the game.

Then, after a hard-fought second half, Thomas Vermaelen popped up in stoppage time to sweep home Theo Walcott's cross and give the Gunners a vital victory.
