FC Twente, the first game against FC Schalke 04, 1-0 win. The Tukkers were stronger than the Germans, but needed a controversial penalty kick to win.

Twente had that much confidence from the most spectacular victory over PSV (2-6) was clearly visible.

The team of coach Steve McClaren shot off the starting blocks and got through Leory Fer like a good possibility. From a cross from midfielder Ola John shot the next however. Schalke dropped far back pockets, but was also forced by an offensive Twente.
