De Rossi says: My future is to be Roma captain

Midfielder of Rome - Daniele De Rossi has said he is expecting to inherit the captaincy at the club emblem - a suggestion he would not leave during the winter or the summer 2012 transfer window.

"Future captain? I cannot see myself being labelled this, but there is an precise explanation - once the current captain stops playing then I will take the armband," De Rossi told Radio 2 Rai. "Do I need to reassure fans over my future? Well, the heart is there for it to beat fast."

There were many speculations on the 28-year-old in connection with its contract with the club of Rome. Some have claimed a new agreement is signed, while the official line from the club in the center of ongoing talks.

The midfielder said his goals are going forward to help fight Roma for a Champions League place.

"Will we win this year? I am afraid not, but everyone dreams of playing in the Champions League or winning the Scudetto [Italian title]."

Roma is presently fifth in Serie A and play Udinese on Friday night.
